Clinical Director

Eddie Alvo, LMFT #125795 and LAADC #LCi10460218, serves as Clinical Director and brings 15 years of professional experience across addiction treatment and mental health services. His career began in addiction counseling and progressed through roles as a driver, technician, drug and alcohol counselor, and coordinator of an internship program for addiction counseling. He later expanded his clinical experience into mental health, managing PHP and IOP programs, overseeing a residential treatment center, and facilitating family therapy groups. This combination of addiction treatment and mental health experience gives Eddie a broad understanding of the continuum of care and the different levels of support clients may need throughout recovery.

Education and Professional Development

Eddie began his educational journey at age 45 at East Los Angeles College through its Addiction Studies Program, initially pursuing his goal of becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. That first college course developed into a long-term professional path that ultimately led to a master’s degree in psychology. His experience also includes serving as an adjunct professor at East Los Angeles College, where he teaches in the same Addiction Studies Program where his own professional journey began.

His education and professional experience are supported by the following credentials and roles:

  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #125795)
  • Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC #LCi10460218)
  • Master’s degree in psychology
  • Clinical Director
  • Adjunct professor at East Los Angeles College
  • Instructor in the East Los Angeles College Addiction Studies Program

Clinical Experience in Addiction and Mental Health

Eddie’s professional background encompasses multiple stages of addiction treatment and behavioral health care. Early in his career, he worked directly in addiction services before taking on increasing responsibility within treatment programs. He coordinated an internship program for addiction counseling, providing experience connected to the education and development of future addiction professionals. His career subsequently expanded into mental health services, where he managed PHP and IOP programs, oversaw a residential treatment center, and facilitated family therapy groups.

This range of experience allows Eddie to understand treatment from multiple perspectives, including direct client support, program management, family involvement, and professional education. His background across levels of care can help inform how treatment services are structured and how clients and families navigate the recovery process.

Clinical Approach

Eddie’s clinical approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused practices. He emphasizes meeting each client where they are in their recovery journey and tailoring treatment to individual needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. His work incorporates an understanding of both addiction and mental health, reflecting his professional experience across these interconnected areas of care.

His approach is informed by a commitment to practical, individualized support and by his experience working with clients at different stages of treatment. Eddie also brings his clinical perspective into the classroom as an adjunct professor, contributing to the education of students preparing for careers in addiction counseling.

Lived Experience and Commitment to Recovery

Alongside his professional qualifications, Eddie draws on lived experience with active addiction and long-term recovery. He recently celebrated 15 years of sobriety, an experience that contributes to the empathy and authenticity he brings to his work with clients. His personal recovery journey is closely connected to his professional commitment to helping others pursue lasting recovery while maintaining a clinical approach grounded in his education, licensure, and treatment experience.

Eddie’s path into the behavioral health field began later in life, making his progression from an introductory Addiction Studies course to licensed clinician, Clinical Director, and college instructor a significant part of his professional story. His continued involvement with East Los Angeles College also brings his career full circle, allowing him to contribute to the same educational program that helped launch his own journey in addiction counseling.
