How Much Time Should I Be in Treatment to Adequately Heal From Trauma and Addiction?

Seeking sobriety and healing is a powerful step for you to take to better yourself and your future. Trauma plays a significant role in a person’s processing and development. When left untreated, it can very quickly lead to substance abuse as a form of self-medication. The concept of self-treating any form of mental health concern is not recommended, and seeking professional care to heal from these conditions is necessary for healing and recovery.

Restoration Recovery is a quaint and intimate rehabilitation center near Sacramento, CA. Located in Auburn, close to the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, we offer every level of care needed to heal from substance use disorder (SUD) and the many comorbid conditions that often co-exist with addiction. We focus not only on your mental and physical health but also on spiritual healing as well. By striving for complete wholeness, we provide every client with the highest level of wholesome healing and recovery.

How Are Trauma and Addiction Related?

Scientists have researched the comorbidity of trauma and SUD for many years. Data has indicated a significant connection between the two. Numerous studies have focused on traumas experienced during childhood and how they are linked to current SUD cases. One, in particular, revealed a shocking majority of 77% had endured at least one traumatic experience before the age of 16. Of this high percentage, 55% of those were involved in childhood sexual abuse.

While in many circumstances, there is a clear link between trauma and SUD, this is not always the case. There are numerous elements that can contribute to SUD, including psychological, biological, socio-cultural, and environmental factors. A person’s genetic makeup regarding their natural response to stress can also play a significant role in the risk of developing a dependency on substances.

Experiencing trauma on any level at any age creates a ripple effect on an individual’s mental health. Stress, anxiety, avoidance, and depression are common concerns in trauma-related cases. All of these conditions affect not only a person’s mental state but also their physical wellness. Furthermore, untreated trauma can lead to more severe conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

How Long Does Treatment to Heal From These Conditions Take?

At Restoration Recovery, our clients may spend anywhere from several weeks to several months in one of our rehabilitation programs, depending on the severity of their addiction and other medical factors. During the initial intake, you will participate in a full-scale psychiatric evaluation to determine your individual treatment needs and develop an individualized treatment plan.

The development and progress through a rehabilitation program are different for every client. Just as a child’s grades vary from student to student, your recovery journey will not be the same as someone else’s. These differences do not equate to one sobriety path being better than another. We are all unique, and our journeys reflect our differences. Embrace who you are and be proud of the progress you have made.

What Programs Are Available to Heal From Trauma-Related Addiction?

Here at Restoration Recovery, we understand the individuality of our clients. That’s why we believe in giving our clients options to accommodate all walks of life. Our rehabilitation programs are grouped into two main categories: inpatient and outpatient. In both classifications, clients receive the exact same evidence-based treatment modalities while maintaining a small staff-to-client ratio. Additionally, every program offered is device-friendly, allowing the use of laptops and mobile phones.

Inpatient Treatment (Residential Care)

What distinguishes residential care from outpatient treatment is that clients will live full-time in the facility for the duration of the program. This form of treatment is the most intense variation of addiction recovery. Clients are fully engaged in the program 24/7 and are supervised at all times. This allows for constant monitoring through psychiatric and medical evaluations to ensure every client remains on track for a long-lasting recovery.

Outpatient Treatment (Day Treatment)

In our outpatient programs, clients are able to remain in their personal residences while receiving treatment in our center during the day. These plans are geared toward the working adult who can’t set life on hold. Because we believe in accommodating everyone, we have built multiple options to fit your needs at any stage of recovery. These differ in intensity and time commitments. The need for one over the other can be determined during intake. Some of our outpatient programs include:

  • Standard outpatient
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

What Happens After Treatment?

Once you have completed one of our recovery programs, aftercare is the final step. This form of treatment is an ongoing support system that assists clients in the healthy transition of returning to their daily life outside of our facility. We provide you with the necessary resources and guidance for maintaining a long-lasting substance-free recovery.

Through regular therapy, support groups, and many other modalities after rehab, we strive to ensure that your future is bright, happy, and free of addiction. You deserve nothing less than the best.
